    • A series of four panel conversations, featuring a total of twelve presenters, will bring together researchers from several institutions who are conducting cutting-edge research on the topic of ageing from diverse fields such as architecture, communication studies, psychology, education and fine arts. The panelists will discuss their research on aging and explain the ways their work can foster creative and complex approaches to ageing processes that challenge normative or stereotypical understandings of later life. In addition, several presentations will consider the intersections between innovation, new technologies and aging while offering the public a nuanced understanding of what it means to age in a digital world, where the emphasis is too often placed on those who are young and the technologies that are new.

9 AM: Doors open

  • All-day installation:
    • Moving Pictures, a video and sound installation from the Digital Literacy Program at the Atwater Library and Library and Computer Centre
    • Retrospection, A presentation of four years of paintings and drawings by the Yellow Door Art Club
    • Hommage, Sculptures, crafts, paintings and drawings by The NDG Senior’s Atelier
    • Collection Paintings, drawings, collaborative crafts and whimsical sculptures by the St-Henri Art Hive Seniors’ Group,
    • Fragments of Life, a digital photography exhibit by five artists of the Hillside Residence in Westmount, in which they examined their lives and the details that define them.
    • Madhu’s Saris, collection of saris on loan from RECAA that holds a lifetime of meaning for one of its members.
    • Jeu de main / Show of Hands, a multimedia work by local artist Robert Prenovault showing his hands through time.
    • Honouring the Missing Women, a piece of beadwork by Winnipeg-based visiting First Nations visual artist and poet Marie Annharte Baker.

11 AM: A special live reading of original poetry and prose by members of the St-Henri Art Hive Seniors’ group.

12:30-1:30 PM:  The Yellow Door Knitting Club and ETHIK invite the public to participate in a textile workshop, and to engage in knitting and felting in a comfortable and welcome atmosphere.

1:30 PM: Indigena Awry. Marie Annharte Baker will read a selection from her award-winning collection, as well as new poems.

3:00 PM: A choreographed Bollywood dance performance by RECAA members

5:30 PM: Doors Close.

  • Poster session – 9:00 to 5:00 PM
    • A poster session will feature the work of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are working towards defining and redefining aging-related research from a variety of disciplines. Come and discover how emerging researchers from around the world are thinking about aging, and how the intersection between later life and creativity appears in their work. The projects will be displayed on HD screens installed in the Atrium of the EV building and interdisciplinary committee will award cash prizes to the best posters at the end of the day.
